Comparing GoPro Hero11 and Max360

Yeah, that’s exactly why I decided to test it :)

Not just the initial purchase, rigging together multiple Hero’s would also require some custom stand, extra battery/charging care, some solution to merge all the images… I’m sure people are doing that, but probably not as pure hobbyist projects.

Quick and Easy Surveying with a GoPro MAX 360° Camera

360 viewing was added in https://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/16472 , although somewhat partial - the images are low-res.

This is attempted to be improved in https://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/21432 .

As for a mast - exactly my concern. While it would be great to raise the camera higher, I wouldn’t want to have it like that without additional supports like guy-wires. I might try mounting it on a bicycle that is mounted on the car roof later this summer :)

North Korea Mapping Guide, a guide to the country, why and how

Looks like you did it - https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Vietnam_Mapping_Guide ;)

A wonderful way to learn Overpass

Thanks, that’s also a great one - a minor difference is the Overpass popup vs the integrated results.

OSM Relatify: OpenStreetMap public transport made easy

Hearing positive feedback from the local community, advertised it on Mastodon :)

OSM editing streak fail

One thing I sometimes do after a busy day at work - crack open JOSM and do some tracing. In Latvia, we have decent imagery and plenty of places like this: https://imgur.com/a/051AS95 . So I would map some buildings, driveways, some bigger roads. Maybe a swamp or two. And this can be as short or long activity as I feel on that day. If you decide to resume streak attempt, come over to Latvia, if only virtually, for some laid back editing :)

Mapping Mexico with INEGI, you and...Cygnus

Ahh, that’s great, thank you :)

Cleaning up large, untagged ways

SomeoneElse, indeed, that’s a good point. In this case most of those ways were leftovers from a foreign mapper who had enthusiastically deleted many forest areas, but apparently had not paid attention to detail.

drolbr, a great tip, would indeed be very helpful when one might not know way ID beforehand.

Cleaning up large, untagged ways

Yes, that’s a good hint. In the case I was looking in, most of the areas had been re-traced already, with those ways providing no benefit.

Announcing Daylight Map Distribution

Finbar1, I would guess that the focus of this project is to focus on problematic changesets/edits, not data quality as such.

Mikel, that’s a great insight, on publishing “what didn’t make it through”. Flagging problems (automatic or semi-automatic) frees up the contributor time and allows to fix the problems sooner.

Announcing Daylight Map Distribution

In the past, there have been projects that check routing between known destinations - for example, Berlin -> Paris. If the routed distance differs from the expected one by more than some threshold (or even fails completely), it is flagged for review.

The images have gone missing here… Can they be restored?

Why Search and Rescue Organizations Must Map Out Cellular Phone Towers in OpenStreetMap

“must of tried” -> “must have tried”; “might of lived” -> “might have lived” “could of been saved” -> “could have been saved”

Greasemonkey, or how to embed OSM into geocaching.com

in the meantime, geocaching moved to osm as the default (mapquest open tiles), then moved back to google maps when mapquest open tiles disappeared. anybody got a snippet for firefox to use osm again ? google maps… are lacking any and every useful detail.

OSM loves Mapillary

typo - “pones clock” :)

Retrieving notes with a Perl script

thanks, i was aware of the note feeds and was following them myself - but i don’t think they allow saving notes to gpx for usage on a gps, do they ?

Processing GPS traces from a Garmin GLO.

beware - if you do full run on a roundabout or plot a parking lot, gpsbabel will drop more data than needed with the distance option… you can see some discussion here : http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.gps.gpsbabel.general/6395

as you can guess, such traces are not that good for osm.

https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-lv/2011-July/003040.html suggests a simple fix - in that version of gpsbabel, adding

else { break; }

after line 121

COFFEEDEX & the single-tag revolution

hopefully this is an attempt at specialised editors and starting a discussion, not a serious intent :)

otherwise i’d like to map beer prices. and bread prices in supermarkets. and availability or alcoholic drinks. and room prices in hotels. oh, and their availability, too…

"For Google's (not) a Jolly Good Fellow!"

just to clarify… everybody appreciates contributions, but we are very cautious about copyright. google does not play friendly with us - well, too bad, we have to do without them.

Experience

wanted to comment on "they did search at my flat as well" part - don't these things require a court order anymore ?

and it would be nice to try to bring this to some larger media outlet - bbc did run some stories on osm - maybe Maggie Shiels wants to pick this up (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8305924.stm) or whoever was involved with http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8517057.stm (phrase it like "help haiti earthquake relief, get arrested in england" or something ;) ) - surely writing this experience in a nice way might attract other media as well.
